Hua Zhu obtained Ph.D. degree from Columbia University and completed his postdoctoral studies from Princeton University. He has been working on herpesviruses for over 20 years. He performed pioneer works on global cellular transcriptional responses to viral infection. Later, he applied BAC technology to study cytomegalovirus (HCMV) and varicella zoster virus (VZV) gene function, tropism and pathogenesis. He is one of the first to construct for HCMV and VZV BACs. He was first to discover VZV neurotropic factor which leads to a novel neuro-attenuated VZV vaccine develop. He has published over 90 research articles, reviews and book chapters.
